The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl harboring multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four separate souls, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, while additional clips depict the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can trigger something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their heads should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
