This January transfer window is always a period of intense rumour and possible major moves. Numerous notable players are being linked with transfers out of their current teams. We examine a selection of the key figures that might be changing clubs this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward in contention, reports suggest a significant transfer is close. This 25-year-old has a deal featuring a sizeable release clause applicable for a two-week window in early January. Recent reports indicate Manchester City look to have won the race for his signature. Other suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative options, leaving teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late bid.

Marc Guéhi

This English defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace this season a previous move to Anfield collapsing. As his deal due to run out in the close season, January is the club's last chance to obtain a fee for their skipper. Numerous top sides, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. However, a winter departure remains unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh winger has found starting opportunities limited at Tottenham this term. Despite finishing as the side's top scorer last season, he has begun just a handful of Premier League matches. It is understood the London club would be open to a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an inquiry.

R. Neves

This Portuguese midfielder might be poised for a return to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. Now just 28, while his contract expiring in the summer, he is a potential bargain. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the player. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran Germany shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barça following new coach Hansi Flick. After lost his place and undergone an operation, a January departure looks highly probable. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that move now appears off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The prolific English centre-forward has continued scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of being in the national squad. But, securing a deal poses significant challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his reported huge weekly wages render any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all mentioned as interested parties.

The striker was instrumental as Al-Ahli to victory in the Saudi Super Cup final.

Conor Gallagher

This dynamic English midfielder drew widespread interest in the off-season but remained at Atlético. With limited starting appearances in La Liga this season, he is eager to find more minutes ahead of the World Cup. Manchester United have been strongly connected, and a move back to Selhurst Park, where he excelled on loan, is also a possibility, although wage constraints could be a stumbling block.

Harvey Elliott

Although starring and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, this young midfielder has struggled for game time on loan at Villa. The manager has stated the loan move won't be made permanent. Due to FIFA regulations about representing two clubs in a campaign, a move back to Liverpool before next summer appears to be the sole viable solution.

Kenan Yildiz

This exciting Turkey forward has been in excellent form for Juventus this term. As his existing deal running down, many English clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but are in a race to retain one of Europe's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Dutch midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ side. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at approximately £22 million.
