Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
